Residents of the City of Colorado Springs live within the Fountain Creek Watershed. This watershed encompasses approximately 928 square miles with a perimeter of 160 miles.

The headwaters of Fountain Creek begin west of the City of Colorado Springs and near Woodland Park. The north-central portion of the watershed discharges to Monument Creek, which drains to Fountain Creek near the downtown area of Colorado Springs. Fountain Creek ultimately discharges to the Arkansas River near Pueblo, Colorado.

Real time flow data is available from the U.S.G.S. for numerous stations in the Fountain Creek Watershed, as well as the larger Arkansas River Basin.

Estimates of land use for the entire watershed are the following: Cropland -- 4.0%, Forestry -- 26.0%, Grazing -- 58.0%, Urban -- 12.0% (source: National Watershed Network).
