Case Description

File Number:08-18528

The Victim: Demetrius Binion, 18 years old, shot and killed 06/15/2008.

The Crime: On 06/15/2008 at approximately 12:50 a.m. the Colorado Springs Police Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call that a shooting has occurred in an apartment on North Murray Boulevard. AMR paramedics declared the victim, identified as Demetrius Donnell Binion, deceased on scene.  Subsequent autopsy would conclude this was a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound to the chest. Three witnesses were present inside that apartment at the time of the shooting.

They described the shooter as a Black male, 5'09" to 6'00" tall, with a skinny build in his later twenties to early thirties. He was further described as having a full beard and was reported to be carrying a large frame black in color semi-automatic pistol at the time of the shooting. One of the witnesses to the shooting stated that she overheard the shooter asking the victim "where is my money" just before he shot him. A witness observed a 4-door, sedan, possibly a Mercedes or BMW style vehicle driving away from the scene at a high rate of speed.  There were two occupants in the vehicle.

The victim came to Colorado Springs from Chicago to visit with one of his associates from Chicago that was a soldier at Fort Carson.   Interviews of the victim?s friends and associates revealed that Mr. Binion may have been a user and seller of narcotics.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
