Cold Case HEader

Victim: Boyd
Victim: Boyd

Case Description

File Number: 87-30129

The Victim: Sherry Boyd was 44 years old at the time of her death. In 1977, the victim had been kidnapped, raped and beaten and held for several days.  She was found in an alley and had been strangled and her neck was broken, however, she survived. As a result she had been left crippled and at the time of her death in 1987, she was wheel-chair bound.

The Crime: On 10/16/87 the CSPD received a report that a body was floating in Prospect Lake.  CSPD officers retrieved the body of a female, later identified as Sherry Boyd.

The Investigation: An autopsy performed indicated that the cause of death of Ms. Boyd was asphyxiation and determined the manner of death as homicide.  The investigation into Ms. Boyd's death remains open.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
