Cold Case HEader

Victim: Allen
Victim: Allen

Case Description

File Number: 91-09200

The Victim: Ricky Allen, 36 years old, shot and killed 3/18/1991.

The Crime: On 03/18/1991 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Ricky Allen was discovered by a friend lying on the floor of his residence at 831 Zion Drive, unresponsive, the apparent victim of a gunshot wound to his head.  Emergency medical response personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.

A cocked handgun was in the victim's hand. Crime scene analyst and detectives concluded that the scene was staged to make it look like a suicide. Ballistic testing concluded that the bullet identified as being removed from the body of Mr. Allen was fired from the the same handgun that was found in the hand of the victim at the crime scene.

Interviews of family and friends as well as evidence recovered from the victim?s residence revealed that he was heavily involved in drugs. The investigation into his death remains open.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
