The Victim: Mr. Alford Henderson, 81 years of age.

The Crime: On June 1st, 1954 the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call to respond to 116 South Corona St., reference the assault of two elderly people inside their residence. The victim's were identified as Alford Henderson and Ms. Lottie Norris. Both victims had been beaten with a brick and/or piece of broken cement. Both victims were transported to Penrose Hospital.  Alford Henderson died as a result of his injuries on June 2nd, 1954.

The Investigation: Lottie Norris told Officers that a black male came to the front door, opened the door, and came inside without knocking. Mr. Henderson asked the suspect what he wanted. The unknown black male asked them, "Does Shook live here?" It was not known what Mr. Henderson replied but there was a conversation between the victim and suspect. The suspect then started to hit Mr. Henderson, backing him into the kitchen. The suspect then started hitting Mrs. Norris in the face and head with a brick in his hand. She described the suspect as being a tall black male with medium dark colored skin, wearing a blue or black suit, "bare-headed, chocolate-colored", weighing approx.155 lbs. This investigation remains open.  


The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
