Case Description

The Victim: On May 31, 1971 at approximately 7:15 pm., Colorado Springs Police Detectives were dispatched to 4116 E. Columbia St. on the report of a possible body found in the front yard.

The Crime: Upon their arrival, the detectives spoke to the  home owner who related that his pet dog had carried the remains of what appeared to be a small body to the front yard of the home.  The badly decomposed body appeared to be that of a baby.  Detectives made a search of the area but the original location of the remains was not located.

The Investigation: At autopsy it was determined that the child may have been still born.  He said that there was no way to tell the sex of the baby or how long the fetus was left abandoned after the birth.

As of this date the baby has not been identified.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit is currently responsible for approximately 90 unsolved homicide cases dating back to 1949. CSPD considers a case to be cold if it remains unsolved for more than one year.
