School Safety Program
![]() |
The School Safety Program for the City of Colorado Springs was adopted by City Council in 1998. The Program provided a more enhanced school safety program than the existing crossing guard program. This program is a comprehensive and proactive program that coordinates with area school districts, parents, students and the City to provide for the safety of children and motorist. This program has added an educational component, as well as expanding the studies and traffic controls for school areas.
The City’s liaison works closely with the school districts to develop direct communication regarding the safety of both the children and the city motorist. This program has allowed the City to install school flashers, new visible school area signage, and provide additional traffic controls. The City has also developed an educational program for school children to help them understand safe pedestrian practices on the City’s roadways.
