Open Space Plan Review
The City of Colorado Springs has made major strides in accomplishing the goals and implementation strategies set forth in the 1997 Colorado Springs Open Space Plan. These accomplishments include the establishment of an open space program, development of working partnerships, the development of regulatory and master plan tools that support open space, and most importantly, the preservation of significant acres of quality open space. In light of these many successes, several of the specific recommendations for action remain to be accomplished and many acres of master planned open space have yet to be protected.
The following review and update of the 1997 Colorado Springs Open Space Plan is provided after four years of dedicated work on behalf of the Colorado Springs Community. Countless hours of passionate citizens advocacy, the determination and vision of City Staff, and the tireless support of community open space via the Colorado Springs City Council, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and the Trails, Open Space and Parks Working Committee have made implementation of the Open Space Plan possible.
