The Victim: Rodney Kirschenman, age 24, was found deceased on 2/17/1991 by a security guard of a local business at 6:55 a.m. He was from Minnesota and had been in Colorado Springs for a short time. He had moved here hoping for a new start. He was living with friends at 716 E. Costilla St. Unit A prior to his death.
The Crime: Mr. Kirschenman's nude body was found next to the Martin Drake Power Plant between South Conejos Street and west of Los Animas next to the railroad tracks. An autopsy revealed that he had cuts on his wrists and significant bruising to his face and body. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation.
The Investigation: The investigation revealed that he had left home the evening prior at about 8:30 p.m. He was walking to Monty's Tavern on S. Tejon St. to meet up with friends. It is believed he was wearing a navy blue corduroy baseball cap with a Camel cigarette logo, gray nylon vest over a denim blue jean jacket underneath that was a gray long sleeve sweater with two red stripes on the bottom, dark blue stone washed jeans, tan tennis shoes with velcro straps and a Seiko watch. These items have not been located. Kirschenman was 5 ft. 4 in. tall and weighed 120 pounds with dark brown hair and eyes. His death remains an open investigation. |
