City of Colorado Springs / Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum / Collections / Donations

The mission of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret the history and culture of the Pikes Peak Region. Because of our mission, artifacts and materials should help to document the history of Colorado Springs and the surrounding area. Objects and archival materials should have been made or used in the area and have some clear and specific connection to the history of the Pikes Peak Region. With this in mind, collections staff members selectively add to the collection. When examining potential donations, the staff asks the following questions:

  • How does this object relate to the history of the Pikes Peak Region?
  • What person, place, institution or event does this object help to document in the Pikes Peak Region?
  • What is this object's history?

A collections staff member would be happy to talk to you about a potential artifact or archival donation. We know that your time is valuable to you, and in order to use it efficiently, please call or email one of the following staff members before bringing in a potential donation. Only collections staff members are authorized to accept materials for donation. By calling or emailing for an appointment, you will be sure that the appropriate staff member will be available to talk with you.

For donation of archival materials, please contact Leah Witherow, Archivist, at:

Loans to the Museum:  The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum follows standard accredited museum policies regarding loans.  We do not take "long term" loans, loans for unspecified time periods, or that are not related to our exhibit plans.  When we are creating a new exhibit, we may seek out artifacts that help us interpret the subject we are presenting.  These loans are for a limited time, usually no more than 1 (one) year and are based on our needs as we have determined them.    As a rule, we initiate contact with institutions and individuals from whom we want to barrow.  We appreciate the interest that many have expressed in loaning items to us, but these rarely fit our requirements.
