Prep

After milling, a thin layer of asphalt called the leveling course or "preparation coat" often is placed on the street to fill in depressions and provide a more level street surface prior to applying the "finished" overlay. Many people confuse this intermediate coat with the end repaving product, although it has a rougher texture and normally does not cover the street from curb to curb.
