Adopt-A-Park!

You can help keep our parks clean by Adopting a Trash Can!  We are looking for volunteers to make a 1-year commitment to provide trash bags, remove trash at a minimum of once per week, and dispose of the trash.  To sign-up today, please complete our application. Click here!

Beautiful parks require a little dirty work! Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services "Adopt-A-Park" program provides an opportunity for individuals, volunteer groups, neighborhood associations, and businesses to take an active role in the maintenance and improvement of local parks, trails and green spaces.

 

Changes to the Program

City parks need your help more than ever in light of the budget constraints we are facing!  We have revamped the program to allow our volunteers to help more than ever to keep our parks a place everyone can enjoy.  Please scroll down to see what the new program entails.

 

Our Volunteers

Adopt-A-Park volunteers include:

·         Individuals

·         Senior Citizens

·         Neighborhood Associations

·         Youth Groups

·         Schools

·         Scouts

·         Church Groups

·         Businesses

 

Anyone interested in preserving and maintaining our beautiful park system is encouraged to participate!

 

Areas to Adopt

You can adopt the entire park, trail or a particular area in a park, including:

·         Sports Fields

·         Playgrounds

·         Exercise Courses

·         Courts

·         Flower Beds

·         Trees and Shrubs

·         Medians

·         Trails and Greenways

·         Open Spaces

 

Minimum Commitment

We ask for a minimum commitment of one year of service to your adopted park or trail.  We also ask that volunteers perform the following routine tasks at their location a minimum of twice a month.  The special maintenance projects can be arranged a few times a year by working with your Parks Maintenance Contact.

 

What You Can Do

Routine Maintenance:

1.       Collect trash throughout park area.  Walk field/grass areas keeping an eye out for foreign materials, especially glass.

2.       Check for and remove weeds and grasses from all shrub beds and tree rings.

3.       Level and/or reset wood chips in shrub beds and tree rings as necessary.

4.       Check all paintable surfaces for graffiti and report to Park Maintenance contact.

5.       Clean debris from any parking areas and curb lines.

6.       Check and pick up any pet waste from grass surfaces (primarily required during non-irrigation months).

7.       Check and restock dog stations.

8.       Rake and collect pine needles (primarily required once in spring and once in fall).

9.       Clean/sweep debris from sidewalks and play court surfaces.

10.   Rake and level wood chips and sand surfaces in playgrounds, paying particular attention to leveling areas beneath swings, slide landing zones and other play structures.  Keep an eye out for broken glass and remove safely.

11.   Check playground structures and any benches or picnic tables for loose or missing nuts and bolts, loose platforms or other damaged or missing pieces or parts.  Report any findings to Park Maintenance contact.

12.   Check turf areas, shrub beds and flower beds for holes that might indicate a broken irrigation pipe or sprinkler head.  Report any findings to Park Maintenance contact.

13.   Follow all Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department polices, procedures and safety guidelines

 

Special Maintenance:

1.       Re-chip shrub beds and tree rings.

2.       Create new tree rings.

3.       Painting/staining projects as applicable per park.

4.       Till playground sand.

5.       Replenish playground sand.

6.       Replenish playground chips.

7.       Clean up edging debris.

8.       Trees and shrub replacement projects.

9.       Chip bed creation.

 

Recognition

Adopters receive:

·         An adoption sign with the adopter?s name on it which will be posted at the site.
