Metro Rides offers free, personalized match-lists of potential carpool partners, connecting people who live close, or along similar routes. It?s a flexible way to commute: carpool every day, twice a week, or mornings only -- it?s your choice! There are carpools that rotate drive days, although single-driver pools with shared expenses are just as popular.
What is carpooling? Carpooling is where two or more people decide on sharing their commute to and from work together.
How do I get a carpool started? Contact Metro Rides! We will enter your commute information in our system to determine if we have any matches that fit your needs. If we do, we give you the other commuter's name and phone number so you can call them and set-up a carpool. If we are unable to find a carpool match for you, you may want to ask around your workplace or hang a notice on your company bulletin board to see if anyone is interested in carpooling.
Will my information stay in Metro Rides' database for future matches? Yes. In order to provide you with new matches, we leave your information in our system until you request removal. When other people match with you, we will give them your phone number and have them call you to set-up a carpool!
Why should I carpool? Carpooling can save you money as well as wear and tear on your vehicle and helps reduce air pollution while reducing stress caused by everyday commuting. Carpooling also allows you to meet new friends, take a nap on the way home from the office or catch up on some reading, and much more!
Who does the driving? Driving arrangements depend on the individual carpool. In most cases, the participants of the carpool take turns doing the driving in his/her own car. Other carpools have one main driver and the others are only passengers.
What are the costs involved? Using Metro Rides' carpool matching services is free of charge; however, when you join a carpool there is usually a cost involved. Many carpoolers who share the driving don't exchange money. Other carpools share the cost of driving. These arrangements are up to the individuals in the carpool.
What should I charge riders? If you are charging riders to ride in your carpool, here is one way to figure the daily fare for riders. Carpool roundtrip daily mileage X Cost per mile ÷ Number of carpoolers = Daily fare per rider. Please keep in mind, this does not include the operating or ownership costs; such as: oil, maintenance, tires and licensing. You may also want to include any parking costs you may have.
What if I can only carpool once or twice a week? That's okay! You don't have to carpool everyday. Just carpooling once a week helps reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.
Do I have to own a car? No. You can join a carpool that does not need a driver. Using Metro Rides' carpool matching, you can specify that you wish to join a carpool as a passenger only.
What about Insurance? You will need to contact your private automobile insurance company to make sure you and all your passengers are covered. Metro Rides will not be held responsible for any accident, injury, or claim associated with, or deriving from, participation in carpooling.
Yes, I am interested in carpooling, what do I need to do in order to get started? Metro Rides makes it easy for you to submit your application! Call us at (719) 385-7431 for more information.
