Temporary Closure of Platte Avenue between Institute and Wahsatch due to Bridge Maintenance

Maintenance on the deck of the One Way Return Road bridge will begin on October 16. The work is expected to last approximately two days.   The project improvements will require:

  • Closure of eastbound and westbound Platte Ave. between Institute and Wahsatch on Saturday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Pressure washing (cleaning) the underside of the concrete deck
  • Waterproofing the underside of the bridge deck

On Saturday, Oct. 16,  beginning at 7 a.m., eastbound and westbound Platte Avenue from Institute to Wahsatch (see attached map) will be closed with traffic detoured onto Boulder and Pikes Peak. Regular traffic flow should be restored by 7 p.m. each day.

Drivers should expect some delays to complete this work and use alternate routes when possible.  For the safety and expediency of construction and the safety of the traveling public, the City of Colorado Springs ask motorists to pay close attention to posted speed limits and signs through the project area.  All construction activities are weather dependent.

Media should contact Dan Krueger, at 385-5385.

The project is funded by Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority funds.
