City of Colorado Springs / City Engineering / NewsTraffic advisory: Upcomming night work at Academy/Drennan
Night work will be taking place on the Milton E. Proby Parkway project on Sunday, August 22, and Monday, August 23, near the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Drennan Road from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. The work will require the closure of one lane in each direction on Academy Boulevard, 1500 feet south of the Academy/Drennan intersection. This work is being done to accommodate utility relocations.
The $55.4 million Milton E. Proby Parkway project is funded with Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) funds and has an estimated completion date of October 2011. The PPRTA was formed when voters in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls and El Paso County approved a one percent sales tax in November of 2004 to address infrastructure and transit needs in the region. The tax revenue is divided into three categories: 55% capital improvements, 35% maintenance, and 10% transit. The capital portion of the tax should sunset in 10 years.
