Traffic Advisory: Turn lane closure

Beginning at 7 a.m. on July 26, 2010 and continuing through the duration of the project, the right turn lane from eastbound Drennan Road merging onto southbound Academy Boulevard will be closed. Traffic will need to approach the light and wait for the signal to make a right-hand turn. For the safety of the traveling public, a right turn on red will not be allowed at the Drennan and Academy intersection. Motorists are advised to watch for reduced speeds and signage in the area.

The $55.4 million Milton E. Proby Parkway project is funded with Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) funds and has an estimated completion date of October 2011. The PPRTA was formed when voters in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls and El Paso County approved a one percent sales tax in November of 2004 to address infrastructure and transit needs in the region. The tax revenue is divided into three categories: 55% capital improvements, 35% maintenance, and 10% transit. The capital portion of the tax will sunset in 10 years.
