City of Colorado Springs / City Engineering / NewsOpen house for Evans Avenue Bridge Replacement Project
The City of Colorado Springs will hold a public Open House on Tuesday, June 15, to gather public input about a project to replace the stone bridge on Evans Avenue, near the entrance to North Cheyenne Canon Park. The open house will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School, 1200 W. Cheyenne Road.
City and project engineers will be on-hand to discuss the project and identify public concerns, which will be addressed in the bridge design. This is the first of three public meetings scheduled during the 2010 design process, with construction anticipated in 2011. Funding is being provided from a state grant.
The Evans Avenue Bridge is a structurally - and functionally-deficient bridge that must be replaced to maintain public safety. The bridge has a sufficiency rating of 29 out of 100, the lowest in the City, and 8th lowest in Colorado. While the bridge is currently safe for normal traffic, it must be replaced before it becomes unsafe.
The project team is committed to incorporating context-sensitive design so it fits into the character of the neighborhood and park.
