About the Mountain Shadows Park Renovation:

  • Two years ago the Waldo Canyon Fire swept through Mountain Shadows community, resulting in the loss of 346 homes in the City of Colorado Springs. The Mountain Shadows community rallied together to help one another during and after the fire, and they continue to persevere today.
  • The park renovation project is an example of the outstanding public-private partnership between Colorado Springs Together, the Mountain Shadows Community Association and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. More than 150 Mountain Shadows residents and neighbors participated in public meetings to generate ideas for the renovation project.
  • Through the efforts of Colorado Springs Together, the renovation project is being funded by cash and in-kind donations from many community organizations.
  • The master plan was approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in Summer 2013 and includes a new playground and pavilion, as well as a Waldo Canyon Fire Memorial.
  • In addition to the renovations here in the park, more improvements will follow at Chipeta Elementary School.  The City and District 11 collaborated on a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado to create a new educational landscape at Chipeta.
