NIGHT WORK PLANNED FOR AUSTIN BLUFFS PARKWAY BRIDGE PROJECT- GIRDERS TO BE ERECTED
Tuesday, July 22, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-  On Monday, July 21, 2014, night work will be conducted at the corner of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Woodmen Road for bridge girder erection.

Cranes will arrive on the project at approximately 7:00 PM via Austin Bluffs Parkway. Girder trucks will arrive at approximately midnight (12:00 AM) on Tuesday, July 22nd, arriving from the north and exiting to the west on Woodmen Road. Girder erection will take place from 12:00 AM to 7:00 AM.  Work will pause from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM to allow for rush hour traffic. Girder erection work will then resume, with southbound lane restrictions on Austin Bluffs Parkway.

Residents may hear noise or experience vibrations during this work. Motorists are advised to use Powers Blvd. or Rangewood Drive in lieu of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Research Parkway in lieu of Woodmen Road to avoid possible traffic delays.

The goal of this project, funded through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA), is to design and widen the existing Austin Bluffs Bridge over Cottonwood Creek (approximately 250 feet north of Woodmen Road) in order to enhance the north/south connectivity between residential and commercial activity centers.  Phase One work, which includes new bridge construction on Austin Bluffs Parkway and new southbound lanes from Meadow Ridge is expected to be completed by November 2014. Work then would begin to the existing bridge and roadway, which is scheduled to be completed July 2015. Wildcat Construction of Colorado Springs was awarded the construction contract. Design services were awarded to Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers and Architects in July 2012. To receive construction updates or to be added to email distributions, email AustinBluffsPkwy@gmail.com or call 719.299.1454.
