Councilwoman Joins Garden Build

On Saturday, April 5, Councilwoman Jill Gaebler will join Pikes Peak Urban Gardens (PPUG) for the Harrison Victory Garden Blitz Build Day. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Harrison Urban Gardens located at 1060 Harrison Road, Colorado Springs, 80905.

The Harrison Urban Gardens were built in 2011 through a partnership with PPUG, Harrison School District, LiveWell Colorado Springsand the YMCA. Today, it is a vibrant garden producing thousands of pounds of fresh produce for more than 30 families.

PPUG’s Victory Garden Blitz Build will expand upon that success by assisting 10 families from the Harrison School District in building raised backyard vegetable gardens.

For the build each family will be assigned a team of two garden experts to assist them with planting, caring for and harvesting their gardens. The plants and seeds for the gardens were provided by a grant from the Colorado Home and Garden Show.

“This is a great community building event that will bring a neighborhood together around urban gardening, healthier lifestyles and fresh food. I am honored to share this day with these families and look forward to hearing about their many successes as urban farmers,” said Councilwoman Jill Gaebler.
