Structure Fire at Apartment Complex - 906 1st Street

Colorado Springs, CO– On January 19, 2014 at 11:49 a.m., Colorado Springs firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a six-plex apartment complex, 906 1st Street. The first CSFD engine arrived within five minutes to find a working fire in a basement apartment. The fire was under control at 12:03 p.m.

CSFD responded to this single alarm fire call with five apparatus including two fire engines, two fire trucks, hazmat and support personnel. There were approximately 26 firefighters and support personnel on scene.

The fire was confined to the kitchen of the basement apartment. There were no injuries to occupants (all occupants self-evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival).  There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

CSFD firefighters made an extremely aggressive fire attack to limit the overall damage caused by this fire. As a result of their efforts it is estimated that $507,000 of property/content was saved, limiting the overall loss to $9,100 in property/content.

The CSFD was assisted at this fire by the Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Springs Utilities and American Medical Response.

The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation.
