Structure Fire at 2018 Monterey Road

Colorado Springs, CO – On December 24, 2013 at 12:12 p.m., Colorado Springs firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2018 Monterey Road. The first CSFD engine arrived within five minutes to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the house.

CSFD responded to this single alarm fire call with six apparatus including two fire engines, two fire trucks, hazmat, heavy rescue and various support vehicles. Approximately 30 firefighters and support personnel on scene conducted an aggressive exterior attack on the fire followed by an attack of the interior.

Four patients were transported to a local hospital for minor health complaints. There were no other injuries. A total of thirteen people were displaced from the home, eleven of which worked with Red Cross to find temporary housing.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire has been determined to be accidental and human-caused. The area of origin is determined to be the back porch, but several ignition sources are being investigated to determine the exact cause. It is estimated that $220,096 in property was lost and an estimated $76,859 in property was saved from the fire.
