Fire Fatality

Colorado Springs, CO - On November 30, 2013 just after 1:00 a.m., Colorado Springs firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 5102 Galley Road #203B in the Quail Hill Mobile Home Park. The first CSFD engine arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the home. CSFD responded to this fire call with two fire engines, two fire trucks, the hazmat unit, the heavy rescue unit and four support apparatus. There were 29 firefighters on-scene working to put out the fire and provide medical care to the resident. Fire crews were able to quickly locate the fire and rescue the resident from the home. The resident had significant burn injuries, was unconscious and not responsive. CSFD paramedics and AMR transported her to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The El Paso County Coroner will release the official cause of death at a later date. Fire investigators have ruled this fire accidental caused by the resident smoking while on home oxygen. The fire was contained to the bedroom of the mobile home. This is the first fire fatality in the City of Colorado Springs in 2013.
