CSFD Truck 19 Involved in Traffic Accident
Thursday, November 21, 2013

Colorado Springs, CO - This morning, at approximately 9:07 a.m. CSFD Truck 19 was involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of Research Parkway and Lexington Drive. T19 was returning to quarters from an alarm, traveling westbound on Research Parkway. It was proceeding through a green light at Lexington Drive when a private citizen, traveling south bound on Lexington could not stop on the icy roadway. The motorist's vehicle slid into the intersection in front of T19, and the apparatus did not have time to stop before striking the vehicle. As T19 was not responding to an emergency, no lights or sirens were in use.

As of the time of this release no citations have been issued for this incident.

No firefighters were injured in the accident, but the driver of the private vehicle was injured. Firefighters immediately rendered care and the driver was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation and further treatment.

The T19 apparatus did sustain moderate damage, but is able to remain in service until permanent repairs can be made.

CSFD is thankful the injuries were not more serious than they were and would like to remind the community to take drive with caution and allow for extra stopping distance when icy conditions exist.
