City, Colorado Springs Utilities Sign Joint Contract for Fleet Services to Begin Jan 1st

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities signed a five-year contract Oct. 24 with international services  company Serco Inc. to provide fleet maintenance services for both organizations beginning Jan. 1, 2014.

Outsourcing fleet maintenance for the 3500-plus vehicles and equipment for both the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities is estimated to achieve a combined cost-savings of more than $4 million over the life of the contract. Once fully activated in January, Serco will service all Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles and equipment based in Colorado Springs, all City vehicles to include police and fire vehicles, with the exception of the Colorado Springs Fire Department’s heavy fire trucks and vehicles.

“Although the city’s fleet management program has consistently earned high marks for performance, the decision to outsource the program was part of the city’s reorganization efforts to provide cost-savings that would allow enhanced city services with direct impact to our citizens,” said Chief of Staff Laura Neumann. “We look forward to Serco providing the same great quality service while improving government efficiency.”

Likewise, the expanded service will reduce labor and vehicle costs for Colorado Springs Utilities, and provide onsite fleet services at several locations, improving response times and customer service.

Serco has a solid presence in the Colorado Springs community, having 500 employees and several subcontractors in the area directly contributing to the growth and financial health of the community. The current Serco Colorado Springs workforce has expertise in a wide range of technologies and services required to support the local and global missions of the Department of Defense and other government agencies. Serco Inc. has approximately 10,000 employees across the United States with annual revenue of approximately $1.2 billion.
