Serial Bank Robbers Apprehended

Following a bank robbery at the First Bank located at 817 Village Center Drive {Vindicator and Rockrimmon area}, CSPD released clear photos of the suspect.  Once the media shared the photos, several tips were received into our hotline.

While investigators had promising leads following a tip, they still needed to gather evidence to determine if in fact the information was correct.  Investigators were initially concerned of a discrepancy in the height descriptions provided by different victims.  They believed that because of the discrepancy, there were potentially two suspects.

Our Robbery Unit worked around the clock conducting surveillance and on Sunday, September 1st, Robbery Detective Breaux located the suspected getaway vehicle at the Travel Star Motel located at 1703 S. Nevada Avenue.   Our Robbery Unit set up surveillance and monitored activities so they could establish probable cause to affect an arrest.

Once they observed the suspect, they confirmed that he appeared to be the same person from their video surveillance. Continued monitoring of the motel, proved there was another suspect who matched the description. They executed a search warrant at the motel this afternoon and apprehended two brothers and their father who is suspected to be the driver of the getaway vehicle.

Charged with multiple counts of robbery are:  Braden Wayne Butson {12/17/1989}, his brother, Nicholas Edward Butson {06/29/1993} and their father, Brock Edward Butson {06/01/1962}.

There were a total of 8 banks robbed in the City of Colorado Springs to include 4 at the Academy Bank at 2835 Briargate Blvd and 1 attempted robbery, 1 at the American National Bank located at 3755 Briargate Blvd, 1 at the US Bank located at 1125 W. Garden of the Gods Rd and the final one at the First Bank at 817 Village Center Drive.

CSPD Robbery detectives would like to thank the FBI for the tremendous assistance they provided throughout this investigation.
