City and Colorado Springs Utilities team up to text disaster relief
Wednesday, May 22, 2013
The devastation caused by Monday’s tornados has left many of us feeling a strong sense that we want to reach out and help. The City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities have teamed up to support Oklahoma by asking employees and citizens to text a donation to the Red Cross or Salvation Army, two organizations with experience in rapid and effective disaster relief.
In times such as these it is powerful to initiate a ‘force multiplier’ effect - one where there are many people focused on a cause with a common approach. Please join the employees of the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities and consider either one of the following two ways to help. We are hoping that a great number of citizens will text either of these agencies at exactly 4PM TODAY to make a donation. Let’s demonstrate the true spirit of our great City - all in it together!
- Red Cross - text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to contribute $10 or donate online at www.redcross.org/donate
- Salvation Army – text the word STORM to 80888 to contribute $10 or donate online at https://donate.salvationarmyusa.org
Mayor Steve Bach has personally contacted Mayor Lewis of Moore, OK to express his sadness at Moore’s loss. Colorado Springs’ Emergency Management Director, Fire Chief and Police Chief have all made similar calls to Mayor Lewis offering their support.
Together, the City and Colorado Springs Utilities will make a difference in the lives of those who have been affected by the tornados in Moore, OK. Please join us!
