Drug Take Back Initiative
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is coordinating a one-day collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies to conduct a Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative.
This is a statewide event that will provide an opportunity for the public to surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement for destruction.
The event will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is responsible for securing the collected drugs until the DEA has recovered them.
Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage units will be collected.
Items which CANNOT be accepted are: Needles & Sharps, Mercury {thermometers}, Oxygen containers, Chemotherapy/Radioactive substances, Pressurized canisters or Illicit Drugs.
Four locations have been set for collection:
POLICE OPERATIONS CENTER 705 S. NEVADA AVE.
STETSON HILLS 4110 TUTT BLVD.
SECURITY FIRE STATION #1 400 SECURITY BLVD.
MEMORIAL HOSPITAL NORTH 4050 BRIARGATE PKWY
Special Note: Colorado Attorney General John Suthers is expected to be present at the POC location at 10:30 am. in support of this effort.
