Dedication of Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center
Tuesday, September 04, 2012

The City of Colorado Springs, in partnership with the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, invites the community to the grand opening and dedication of the Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center (3440 North Cheyenne Cañon Road – immediately adjacent to Helen Hunt Falls) on Saturday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m.  Mayor Steve Bach, District 3 Council Member Lisa Czelatdko and other community leaders will participate. Immediately following the dedication ceremony, visitors can experience the Cañon through art at the Canvases in the Cañon Art Show from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The New “Cub”

The Friends of Cheyenne Cañon have worked for over seven years to realize their goal of replacing the antiquated log cabin visitor center at Helen Hunt Falls, fondly referred to as “the cub.” The new 1,386-square-foot Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center continues the character of the original cabin but provides much needed space and amenities for staff and visitors.  With a total project value in excess of $200,000, the Friends provided more than $115,000 in funding and materials, and facilitated the donation of design, engineering and contractor services estimated at $28,000.  The City contributed the final $36,000 to build the new “cub.”

“The Friends of Cheyenne Cañon have given back to our community in a big way and we are extremely thankful for their efforts,” says Mayor Steve Bach.  “This will be a terrific amenity for North Cheyenne Cañon Park and the entire community, and it wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the Friends.”
