Child Death

Saturday, August 25, 2012, 11:20 AM [RELEASE AT WILL]


On 08/24/2012 at 7:05PM, Sand Creek officers were dispatched on a 911 call to 952 Brant Hollow Ct. on a 10 month old male that was unconscious but breathing. The child was subsequently transported to Memorial Hospital by AMR. At the hospital, numerous bruises were observed on the child’s torso as well as around the facial area. Additionally, it was suspected that the child suffered a fractured skull possibly causing a brain bleed. The child was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit when at approximately 11:50PM, the child was pronounced deceased.

The parents were in the home at the time and made the 911 call. The initial accounts of how the injuries occurred were inconsistent with the preliminary investigation. The Crimes against Children Unit was notified and responded to conduct the investigation. After follow up investigation was completed, the stepfather, identified as Zachary Doggett, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder and Child Abuse Resulting in Death. He was transported to CJC.

The autopsy of the victim was completed and the cause of death was determined to be blunt force head trauma and was ruled a homicide.

This will be the first child victim homicide this year and the 18th homicide overall, compared to 19 overall homicides at this time last year.
