Fallen Fighterfighters 9-11

Colorado Springs, CO The Colorado Springs Fire Department will be hosting an inspirational memorial exhibit honoring the 343 FDNY firefighters who died on September 11, 2001. Better Angels: The Firefighters of 9/11features individual monochromatic oil portraits of the fallen firefighters on 6” x4” charred blocks of wood.

The artist Dawn Siebel, formerly from New York City, began creating Better Angels in 2005 as a tribute to those 343 firefighters. Her dream for the project has been to display it in a public venue as an expression of appreciation to all members of the fire service.

CSFD will be holding an opening ceremony on August 31, 2012 at 11am to unveil the exhibit. We are honored to have Governor John Hickenlooper, Mayor Steve Bach, the artist Dawn Siebel and Fire Chief Rich Brown speak at this ceremony.

The exhibit is located at the Colorado Springs Fire Department Headquarters, 375 Printers Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO  80910 and will be open daily from August 31 through September 11, 2012 from 9am to 5pm. It is free and open to the public.

Siebel has a website and blog where she documents her progress and collects stories about these 343 heroes as well as other firefighters who have made the supreme sacrifice.
