North Hancock Avenue Bridge Project Complete
Tuesday, July 31, 2012
Construction of the new North Hancock Avenue Bridge was completed and opened to traffic in June. Paving operations on North Hancock Avenue between 4th Street and the new bridge are complete and detours have been removed.
Hamon Contractors began the reconstruction of the Hancock Bridge over the Templeton-Gap Floodway in November 2011 and completed the project three months ahead of their contract completion date.
The North Hancock Avenue Bridge, located north of Fillmore Street and south of Austin Bluffs Parkway, was originally constructed in 1960. Because of the age and condition of the original bridge, the City of Colorado Springs replaced the structure over the winter months using Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) funding. The total project cost, including design, was approximately $5,000,000.
