Monday, July 16, 2012, 2:00 PM [RELEASE AT WILL]

The owner of a home in the 3100 block of N. Prospect Street recently evicted his tenants.  The eviction was to have been  effective on June 30, 2012.

This morning, he went to check on his home and observed some subjects in the garage area.  He contacted the CSPD and officers noted a stolen vehicle being dismantled.  As they searched the area more carefully, they found what appeared to be items consistent with the manufacture of a methamphetamine lab.

Detectives with our Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division and firefighters specifically trained in Hazardous Materials situations responded to the scene to conduct a more thorough investigation.  It is believed that this is an “inactive” lab with residual contaminates only and therefore did not warrant an evacuation.  That being said, officers remain on the scene to monitor the situation as the HazMat Team continues to remove hazardous materials.

It is expected that the scene will be active for the remainder of the afternoon.

No arrests have been made at this time and there is no other information available as investigators are in the preliminary stages.
