Precautions advised due to air quality
Thursday, June 14, 2012

The Colorado Springs Fire Department is anticipating a heavy volume of medical-related calls today due to the low air quality from smoke in the area from the High Park fire in Larimer County. The State Health Department has issued an air quality warning – called an Action Day Alert - for the area today. Those must susceptible to problems are those with pulmonary disease or respiratory conditions, young children, and the elderly. Precautions should be taken today, especially for those with underlying conditions, young children and the elderly, including:

  • Stay indoors in an air-conditioned environment with doors and windows closed.
  • If you must venture outside, wearing a surgical mask may help.
  • Avoid exertion outdoors.
  • If you are taking medications for respiratory conditions, be sure to use them as prescribed and keep them with you.
