Structure Fire on Middle Creek Parkway

Colorado Springs, CO - Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighters and Donald Wescott firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire located at 1147 Middle Creek Parkway at 9:37am on April 10, 2012. The first fire engine arrived at 9:47am to find smoke coming from the basement and front of the home. Firefighters were unable to access the home from the front as flames were coming up the basement stairs toward the front door.

It took fire crews around 40minutes to get the fire under control. All the fire and hot spots were extinguished within an hour. CSFD and Wescott responded with four fire engines, two fire trucks, the heavy rescue unit, hazardous materials team and six support apparatus. 35 firefighters were on scene working to put out the fire.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. Working smoke alarms sounded alerting the family to evacuate the home and call 9-1-1. Due to the damage in the home the family of six (two adults and four children) were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting them with any needs they may have. The damage estimates are:

The fire investigators have determined that this fire was intentionally set by a juvenile. Since the juvenile is over the age of ten, they were charged with 1stdegree arson and 4thdegree endangerment arson.
