Structure Fire at 340 Crestone Lane

Colorado Springs, CO - Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire located at 340 Crestone Lane at the Cheyenne Vista Apartments at 9:18pm on February 22, 2012. The first fire engine arrived at 9:21pm to find a significant amount of smoke inside one of the apartment units. As firefighters continued their investigation, they found flames on two floors of the building. Extremely high winds fueled the fire and additional fire units were requested.

It took around 90 minutes to get the fire out due to the fire being between floors and following the floor joist. The buildings on both sides of the structure were evacuated due to the high winds and risk of exposure to the fire. This was a three alarm fire and CSFD responded with six fire engines, four fire trucks, the heavy rescue unit, and ten support apparatus. CSFD had 52 firefighters on scene working to put out the fire. CSFD fire investigators were called out to the scene and the fire is currently under investigation.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. Due to the damage of the building, it was deemed un-inhabitable and 29 occupants were displaced. The other buildings that were evacuated were cleared and the residents were able to go back home. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents with any needs they may have.
