Structure Fire at 5114 Balsam Street

Colorado Springs, CO– Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 7:39am on December 4, 2011. The first engine arrived at 7:47am to see heavy smoke and flames coming the home. Firefighters had to take a defensive attack and fight the fire from the outside of the home due to reports the home was condemned for having black mold. The home was vacant and the windows were boarded up. The fire was under control at 8:29am.

This was a single alarm fire and CSFD responded with two fire engines, one fire truck, heavy rescue unit, hazmat unit and four support apparatus. CSFD had 24 firefighters on scene working to put out the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire and being the home was vacant no one was displaced.

CSFD fire investigators were called out to the scene and have determined this fire to be incendiary (intentionally set). They continue to investigate this fire. If you have any information on this fire, please call the fire department at 719-385-7292 or CSPD at 719-444-7000.
