Structure fire at 5195 Luster Drive
Colorado Springs, CO– Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 11:27am on December 6, 2011. As crews were en route they saw a large plume of dark smoke and called a working fire. The first engine arrived at 11:33am to see heavy smoke and flames coming all levels of the 3 story home. Firefighters had to take a defensive attack and fight the fire from the outside of the home due to their being no safe access to the inside. The fire was under control at 12:45pm.
This was a single alarm fire and CSFD responded with two fire engines, one fire truck, heavy rescue unit, hazmat unit and four support apparatus. CSFD had 24 firefighters on scene working to put out the fire. CSFD fire investigators were called out to the scene and continue to investigate the cause of the fire. They believe the fire started in or near the garage area of the home.
The family, two adults and two children, will be displaced as the home is a total loss. The CSFD “After the Fire” representatives and the American Red Cross are assisting the family with any needs they may have.
