Recycle Old Car Seats in Colorado Springs - Help the Environment and Make Children Safer

Almost any parent faces the question of what to do with an old car seat. Unlike most hand-me-down baby items, car seats are considered unsafe to re-sell or re-use. You can toss one in the trash, but that can be wasteful and can even pose a risk to children. Some parents have been known to fish out used car seats from trash bins.

That?s why Memorial is proud to announce a car seat recycling program for parents in Colorado Springs. In partnership with Kohl?s and Bestway Disposal, Memorial is providing a way for parents to drop off old car seats, free of charge, to be dismantled and properly recycled. This not only helps the environment, but prevents the risk of parents putting those car seats back into use when they may be unsafe.

About 95 percent of a car seat is able to be recycled. The plastic can be melted down and used for new car seats, toys, reusable plastic cups and a host of other products. The same goes for buckles, straps and other parts.

Parents can take their used car seats to the Kohl?s department store during normal business hours. Just take it to the customer service desk. Or, attend a free car seat safety check and recycling event Saturday, Oct. 2910 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kohl?s Dept. Store (Powers Blvd and S. Carefree Circle). Did you know that 90% of Car Seats Are Put In Wrong? Help keep your child safe. Let certified experts check to see if:
·        Your car seat has expired or been recalled.
·        Your car seat is installed safely.
·        Your car seat fits your child.
·        You?re meeting Colorado car seat, booster seat and seat belt laws.
