The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that the American Lung Association in Colorado will administer a $500,000 grant for electric vehicle implementation planning. This was a 60-partner effort which includes a leadership role for the Southern, Denver Metro, and Northern Colorado Clean Cities Coalitions. City of Colorado Springs and other municipalities along the Front Range have committed to participate. To support electricity as a transportation fuel, the DOE is funding local/regional planning for policies and incentives to develop electric charging infrastructure. This will prepare local communities, such as Colorado Springs, for successful deployment and implementation of plug-in electric drive vehicles. The overall effort will help to decrease the nation?s dependence on petroleum, improve air quality, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by accelerating the deployment of plug-in electric drive vehicles and electric vehicle supply equipment.
