City seeks teens to serve on the Pikes Peak Youth Council

The City of Colorado Springs is looking for 9th-12th graders from public, private or home school to join the Pikes Peak Youth Council (PPYC). The PPYC is sponsored by the Parks Recreation and Cultural Services Department and allows teens to have a formal voice in city government, develop strong leadership skills and create positive change in our community.

What will PPYC Members do?

  • Serve as a communication link between peers and city government;
  • Lobby for youth interests;
  • Provide youth leadership in the community;
  • And create positive change in the Pikes Peak Region.

 What are the required commitments of the PPYC?

  • A term of office is a two-year commitment (or ends upon high school graduation).
  • All representatives and alternates must attend a majority of formal meetings within a calendar year. Meetings are scheduled two times per month for one hour each.  The current council selects the meeting days and times.  Additional meetings are required prior to events or other community commitments.  The average time commitment is between 40-60 hours per year.

 Who can apply?

  • Students who reside in El Paso County.
  • Teens entering ninth grade through twelfth grade.

 How does one apply for Pikes Peak Youth Council?

  • Complete the application form.  Applications can be found on-line at SpringsGov.com by typing "Pikes Peak Youth Council" into the search field or interested applicants can request a hard copy by calling one of the numbers below.
