Photo of firefighters Pass the Torch Academy - Try on a Firefighting Career
Local residents age 14 and older can sample a career as a Colorado Springs Firefighter at the department's annual Pass the Torch Academy. The Colorado Springs Fire Department is holding the event on Saturday, May 10, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Academy, designed especially for under-represented populations, is a hands-on experience in today's most highly-rated career choices. During the academy attendees suit up in full protective firefighting gear and learn how it's designed to keep them safe. Activities include an aerial ladder climb, victim extrication, working a hose line, a HazMat demonstration and the chance to use life-supporting medical equipment on a training manikin. This half-day adventure explores careers in the fire service and gives a quick glimpse into a firefighter's job. Click here, for more information.
