The City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Engineering Department has a new Adopt-A-Waterway program for individuals, businesses, neighborhoods, schools, churches, etc. to take an active role in keeping our waters clean.  For more information about this program click here.

Take your household hazardous wastes to the County facility at 3255 Akers Dr, 719-520-7878.  They are open Monday-Friday 7am-5pm and 2nd Saturdays each month from 9am-1pm.

Anything marked "caution," "keep out of reach of children," "danger," "poison," "hazardous," "flammable," "harmful or fatal if swallowed," "causes severe burns on contact," "do not use near heat or flame," "vapor harmful," "eye and skin irritant," or "use in a well-ventilated area" should be considered hazardous.

Use safety precautions when using, storing, or disposing of hazardous products. 

Waste must be in labeled, non-leaking containers that can be left at the site.

Accepted materials include: paint, stains, solvents, fertilizers, ammonia, bleach, propane takns, automotive fluids, electronics, medical waste, etc.  They do NOT accept asbestos or tires.

1.  Be sure that it can't be recycled - visit the El Paso County Hazardous Waste Website
2.  Try to repurpose it on Freecycle
3.  Contact your residential waste hauling service provider, they will often accept larger loads/items for an extra charge.
4.  Take the item(s) to a landfill or transfer station
