On Monday, Feb. 28 the City of Colorado Springs will host a local green industry best management practices (BMP) training for the conservation and protection of water resources in Colorado: Moving Toward Sustainability ? a GreenCO BMP Training and Exam.

Thanks to a Pikes Peak Workforce Center green jobs grant, City employees will also be able to attend the training. As a result, City staff hope to create a more water efficient organization (with lower utility expenses) and enhanced environmental stewardship of our waterways.

Best Management Practices (BMPs) are guidelines on how to reduce water consumption and protect water quality while producing, designing, installing and maintaining healthy, beautiful landscapes. GreenCO developed this training and certification in cooperation with Colorado State University Cooperative Extension, Denver Water, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and Wright Water Engineers. To successfully complete the written exam and obtain the BMP Training Certificate, broad industry-wide knowledge is recommended.

This local training (typically held in Denver) is open to all industry businesses and their employees at a reduced rate of $90 (normally $150 for non-members) or $75 with a membership to one of GreenCO's alliance organizations: Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC), Colorado Association of Lawn Care Professionals (CALCP), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Colorado Nursery and Greenhouse Association (CNGA), Garden Centers of Colorado (GCC) and the Rocky Mountain Sod Growers Association (RMSGA). GreenCO represents approximately 1,500 member businesses and 35,000 employees in Colorado with the mission to inform, encourage and instill sound green industry practices.
