The City is cleaning its supply closets and before throwing items away or sending them away to be recycled, it?s trying to find them a second home first ?either in another work group or with a local non-profit.
?It?s an effort to model the reuse portion of the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra,? said City Sustainability Coordinator Carrie McCausland. ?Occasionally City functions go away or items become outdated for a specific work group as printed processes become computerized, yet we recognize that another work group may still be able to use those materials.?
For the last several years, the City has held an internal supply-swap. It helps reduce office supply costs, brings awareness to making prudent office supply purchases, promotes inter-departmental teamwork and shows respect for the Earth?s limited resources.
Last year, following the internal event, the City allowed local non-profit organizations to take items remaining after the internal process. The City will do the same this year on Thursday, Feb. 24. Local non-profit organizations (with proof of non-profit status) may come from 3 to 4 p.m. to peruse the remaining office supplies and take whatever they can make use of at no cost.
Note: While we never know what sort of supplies will be available, last year we did have such items as 3-ring binders, organizational materials, type writers, overhead projectors and professional development materials.
