Dr. Thornton earned his Doctor of Management degree from Colorado Technical University in 2005. His dissertation was a case study of Western Pacific Airlines. Dr. Thornton began his career as an instrument technician in the United States Air Force. Following his Air Force service he has been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1971 and worked 15 years in a variety of manufacturing position and for the last 23 years has been employed by the Federal Civil Service.
Dr. Thornton has extensive operational experience within Air Force Space Command with a wide breadth of experience in working financial and facilities issues. As the financial manager for a directorate at Peterson AFB, he managed accounts for a two-star admiral and ten colonels. Dr. Thornton’s facility experience is extensive. He was the base lead for the construction of two buildings to accommodate changes in mission requirements as a result of the base realignment commission findings. His duties have also involved the modification of numerous satellite operations facilities at Schriever AFB. Dr. Thornton continues to serve the nation by integrating acquisition enterprises into Air Force Space Command.
