In 1984, Mr. Timm moved to Colorado as Legal Counsel for North American Homes, a home building, apartment, office and land development company. Mr. Timm was responsible for all negotiations with land sellers, governmental agencies on annexation and zoning matters and neighborhood organizations.

In 1986, Mr. Timm transferred to a related company, AmWest Development, which was a start up company for the development and construction of a 3,000 acre community known as Stetson Hills. Mr. Timm eventually became President of this company.

In 1988, Mr. Timm left AmWest Development and began practicing law in Colorado Springs. Mr. Timm also started a homebuilding company, Chartercraft Homes, to build on many of the lots owned by Mr. Timm's land companies.
