ART COMMISSION OF THE PIKES PEAK REGION d.b.a. Public Art Commission of the Pikes Peak Region Meeting Minutes February 21, 2011 Pikes Peak Conference Room, City Hall
Present: Agnes Blachut, Diane Dillon, Gundega Spons, Lara Holman Garritano, Laurel Justice, Liz Hunter-Ball, Marica Hefti, Pat Orban, Suzanne Casagrande, Tara Thomas Absent: Lisa Czelatdko, Sallie Clark Guest: City Council Member Brandy Williams, Connie Perry, Brian Kelly, Bryson Casagrande Lara called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM. Call to Order and Welcome Approval of Minutes Report: Cascade Smartscape Challenge City Councilmember Brandy Williams and Landscape architect Connie Perry gave a presentation. Handouts were provided; Cascade Smartscape Challenge and RFP. Lara will send the Best Practices to City Councilmember Williams. 2012 Goals/Progress Reports Promote Art: Public Art Inventory; Lara thanked everyone who participated in the project. Pat, Laurel and Agnes provided photographs in addition to other assistance. Laurel provided the writing. The photographs will be compiled and sent to Brett. The link is not live yet so we can make changes. Tara suggested that we consider placing a disclaimer on the site to allow for updates. Something along these lines was mentioned, “If you notice something that may have changed, please contact…” Peak Radar has a tab at the bottom of their screen for live shots. Lara will present at the Community Ventures board meeting. The launch party is still being discussed. Yarn Bombing Project Update: We received a handout with the Yarn Bomb projects currently in process. Lara will discuss funding with Juanita. Downtown Trees Update: This project discussion was tabled until more information is received. Sean O’Meale was recommended as a good artist, and Lara has contacted Whittle the Wood Program to find costs of comparable projects. Please think about artists who can carve trees. Because there is no money involved could a fundraiser be considered? Cheyenne Village Artwork Update: The next step on this project is a site selection committee. Suzanne will represent the Public Art Commission of the Pikes Peak Region. New Business Governance; Recruitment: This is the list of the 12 positions: 1. Pikes Peak Arts Council, Marica Hefti 2. AIA Architect, open 3. City Representative, Lisa Czeltdko 4. El Paso County Representative, Sallie Clark 5. Fine Arts Center, Tara Thomas 6. Visual Arts Representative, Diane Dillon 7. Visual Arts Representative, Pat Orban 8. Higher Education Representative, Gundega Spons 9. Community Representative, Lara Holman Garritano 10. Community Representative, Laurel Justice 11. Community Representative, Suzanne Cassagrande 12. Community Representative, Liz Hunter-Ball 13. Alternate, open 14. Alternate, open 15. City of Colorado Springs Airport Representative (non-voting), Agnes Blachut It was recommended that we consider gender, geographic location, diversity, military, and someone new to our community (less than 2 years) for our open positions. The announcements will be published in the newspapers and Marti Devine Sletta in the City Council’s office will handle this. Laurel made a motion to accept the criteria for our selection process and Tara seconded. All were in favor. Review of Public Art commission Logo Suzanne shared her beautiful and thoughtful designs in a handout. Discussion followed. Suzanne was asked to further develop designs A and C. Any decisions were tabled. Committee Reports Social networking; Gundega presented a handout for discussion on the developed FaceBook. Please review the information and suggest any changes.
